Meet Ryan Matthew Leskovar – Our Family Grew from Three to Four!

Introducing the newest addition to our family: RYAN MATTHEW LESKOVAR
8 pounds, 1 ounce – 21 inches

BIRTH STORY

Ryan was born on August 21 at 3:15pm in the afternoon. He wasn’t born in a hospital room. This baby boy decided to come IN OUR CAR, literally yards from the hospital front doors.  And no… I’m not joking!

My labor started at home in Rockford with my parents, who came to visit & stay with us from out of town. My labor lasted all of about an hour total. They both acted as my doulas, while my husband made his way home from work in Grand Rapids. While in the car on the way to the hospital my painful contractions continued. Upon arriving at the hospital, my husband Matt parked the car in front of the hospital doors, ran out to grab a wheelchair for me, and during this short time I experienced what was one of my last contractions coupled with literally pushing out our baby!

Ryan was already about halfway out when Matt came to my side if the car after hearing my very loud screams. He said “oh my gosh!”, and proceeded to deliver his son the rest of the way.

Talk about SURREAL. The whole thing. Complete out of body experience. Nurses and doctors rushed outside, they said the baby looked great, cut the umbilical cord, got me on a gurney and off we went into the hospital to complete the process.

Definitely not the birth story I envisioned for Ryan but WOW. God. Only God. He is so faithful. I was listening to Chris Tomlin’s song “Faithful” the night before & singing it out loud, trusting He would bring Ryan into this world in His way & timing. He certainly did (while adding a unique delivery twist), and protected us all.

We’re all doing great, and our hearts are SO FULL!!! Our sweet Luke met his little baby brother the day after Ryan came. As I expected, I turned into a total ball of MUSH because his reaction to meeting Ryan was PRICELESS.

You can see those photos below, along with our very first professional photos as a family of FOUR!

August 22, 2018 – Big brother, Luke, meets little brother, Ryan

He gave him a kiss right away! All on his own…

Ergo my sobbing mama cry face – too many hormones & emotions, I couldn’t help myself! ;-)

Watching his reaction unfold was so so precious…

Elizabeth Leskovar & Martin William’s Engagement – Rockford, Michigan

Every engagement session I shoot is a special one, but when it involves FAMILY… even more so! My sister in law just got engaged last week, and I had the pleasure of doing a very impromptu, mini engagement session while her & her fiancé were in Rockford this past weekend! Their wedding is set for December 8 of this year. I’m so happy for her and thankful that I was able to be a part of their new & very exciting celebration in this way.

Congrats you two!!

A Romantic Michigan Lake-Styled Elopement – The Loeks Retreat Center

A dreamy color palette with minimalistic details made up this romantic lake-styled elopement shoot. It provides relaxed and elegant inspiration for couples wanting a more intimate wedding experience.

Photographer Christina of Christina Leskovar Photography envisioned the soft and elegant combination of details featured in this shoot to pair with her light and airy style of imagery.

Wedding Planner, Kate, of Valley & Oaks Events helped to make this elopement vision a reality. With her creative mind and expertise in combining the aesthetics of vintage rentals, bridal gowns, decor & design layout, she created the most romantic setting both inside the location’s venue and outside on the private beach.

The models featured in this shoot are a real-life, newly-wed couple, which made for the most natural and romantic feels and photos. The chemistry, love and fun they share together was captured effortlessly.

This shoot took place at The Loeks Retreat Center, which sits on 800 feet of beautiful lake frontage on Lake Michigan. In the evening and on weekends, this venue transforms into a cozy and majestic event, ceremony and reception space, with a deck view that is incomparable along the lakeshore. With a guest capacity of 152, and lodging opportunities it is an ideal venue for midwest destination weddings.

The Rental Company provided the gorgeous ivory-colored metal arbor & draping for the beach, along with farmhouse chairs, dining table, white linen table cover, dusty blue table runner, blush pink napkins, silver-beaded chargers, silverware and a gorgeous, soft blue dessert table.

Gigi & LaClede provided the stunning shimmery pearl, antique glasses for the dining table, antique white salad plates, cherry-colored floral dinner plates, and an elegant clear and silver cake tray.

The pastel blue and white, two tiered, fondant-covered cake was made by KMB Confections. This vanilla bean cake was frosted with vanilla buttercream icing, and showcased the most delicate hand-piped lace on the bottom tier. The intricate detailing on the bottom tier featured brush embroidery peonies, roses, and wild flowers. A thin grey ribbon accented the top tier and was embellished with pink spray roses, white astilbe, white bouvardia, and blue limonium by Blissful Blossoms Design.

The florals used throughout this shoot tied each portion of the decor & details together effortlessly! Blissful Blossoms Design created a large garden-style arrangement for the table centerpiece, which sat inside an antique white hobnail Fenton glass compote. Blossoms of white peonies, bridal akito, vendela, and quicksand roses highlighted the bouquet. White stock, light pink and white spray roses, blue delphinium, light green hellebores, blue limonium, white astilbe, and sterling range heather complemented it, while foliages of dusty miller, italian ruscus, bridal wreath, and weigela provided the backdrop for this airy and feminine floral display.

The bride and groom farmhouse chairs were decorated with a garland of Lake Michigan driftwood and light grey-blue satin ribbon. A simple gathering of white spray roses, vendela roses, blue limonium, and sterling range heather was added to the side of the chairs.

The base of the beach arbor was decorated beautifully with foliages of dusty miller, italian ruscus, willow eucalyptus, weigela, bridal wreath and ferns. All this rested inside a large piece of Lake Michigan driftwood, which perfectly tied the lakeside theme together with the same indoor textures of the farmhouse chairs & the driftwood detail used behind them. The foliage was accented with bridal akito, vendela, and quicksand roses, white stock, blue delphinium, blue limonium, white sterling heather, light green hellebores, and pink and white spray roses.

The model’s elegant hand-tied bridal bouquet was designed with white peonies, and three complimentary blush roses including quicksand, vendela, and bridal akito. Light pink and white spray roses added fragrance and a delicate feminine touch, and texture was enhanced with blue delphinium, blue limonium, white bouvardia, white astilbe, and sterling range heather. Light green hellebores provided both a touch of whimsy and an unexpected element. Willow eucalyptus, italian ruscus, and dusty miller framed the blossoms, as well as foraged stems of bridal wreath and weigela. The bouquet was wrapped in ivory satin and embellished with a hand-dyed blush silk ribbon.

The groom’s boutonniere included a blossom of white ranunculus, highlighted with blue limonium, white sterling heather, and dusty miller, accented by a tied soft grey blue ribbon.

Jessica of JesSmith Designs created an assortment of calligraphy pieces for this shoot, including a full elopement-styled stationery suite. The suite featured a frosty, sea glass look for the invitation itself, and she played up the natural elements by using handmade paper, dyed to emphasize the soft, nautical color scheme of the shoot. Grey wax seals featured a marbled wax, adding a touch of elegance to the overall suite. More of the same soft hues were tied into the sand dollar place cards for the dinner table which also featured calligraphy on custom silk handmade ribbon. The large “Art of Marriage” fabric that draped front and center on the dining table featured sentimental words hand-written in calligraphy. “His” and “hers” vow books were made with handmade blue-gray paper, custom calligraphy and bound in silk ribbon.

Spring Sweet provided the best bridal attire for this elopement-styled shoot, beginning with the Heaton gown by Wtoo, perfect for the modern romantic bride. The skirt on this dress is made of soft tulle layers, without being too full. It features lovely off the shoulder tulle straps, and corset boning detail. A subtle dip completes the back of the dress. The design of this dress is dreamy and slightly vintage inspired, but also up to date and modern. The Ferrah Belt from A.B. Ellie is a subtle bridal belt. Instead of rhinestones, it’s covered in delicate white beads creating a subtle feather detail.

The Skylar Jumpsuit by Theia was the perfect second outfit for a lakeside elopement. Easy to wear, it’s covered in beautifully detailed white lace. It’s both effortless and breezy. The Floral Comb used in the bride’s hair from Mint Lola is made up of white metal rosebud detail flowers, with just a few rhinestones in the center of the flowers creating a slight sparkle.

Wonderfully Made Beauty created a stunning yet soft makeup look for the bride. Her look was inspired by the royal wedding with a boho twist to match the elopement theme and decor. The bride had beautiful skin and the colors chosen complimented her skin tone and hair color. A light hand was used to apply color and gradually built up with blending and buffing techniques. Her skin was kept glowy by using liquids and creams, her eyes were accentuated with false lashes and a perfect, spiced auburn color was used on her lips.

The bride’s hair was styled by Mani at Palace Flophouse Salon. To give it that relaxed, beach feel, she curled it with a wand, twisted it back and secured it at the base of the head with bobby pins giving the illusion of a low pony tail. To create balance and extra texture where hair could appear “flat,” pieces were pinched and pulled carefully and then sprayed into place.

Every single detail designed & executed by the vendors in this lake-styled elopement shoot came together flawlessly!

If you are a bride or groom-to-be, I’d love to talk about documenting your beautiful elopement or wedding day.

I’m already half-way booked for 2019, so contact me soon to see if your wedding date is available. I’d love to meet with you!

Baby Plans – Maternity Leave – Christina Leskovar Photography

ANTICIPATION OF BABY #2’s ARRIVAL

IT’S THAT TIME… BABY TIME!! The season has come for me to slooow down as I will soon be nurturing another little one in our family of almost four. There is nothing as amazing as being a mommy to our 2.5-year-old son, Luke. I can only imagine how much my heart will burst with the addition of baby #2. Luke fills my heart with so much joy each day. He’s growing & developing so fast!! Having a newborn again will make me realize just HOW MUCH he’s grown since those wee little baby days. I can’t wait to see him as a big brother… he’s going to be THE SWEETEST. I can’t wait to watch them interact together and grow up to hopefully be the best of friends.

Our sweet baby is due August 20 (but my gut tells me he’ll be coming sooner…). Since that time is closing in, I’ve decided to start my maternity leave August 1 (because… you just never know what could happen!) I have done SO MANY portrait sessions & weddings this pregnancy… all the way through the very end of July! I couldn’t feel more grateful to God for allowing me to have a smooth, pain/issue-free pregnancy so that I could tackle the SECOND job in life that I love so much – photography.

TO MY CLIENTS

I’m so thankful to each and every one of you who chose me to document your 2018 engagements, weddings and portrait sessions. Because of you, I’m able to continue to grow & thrive in this Fine Art Photography business and continue to serve others through my job.

I also want to say a big shout-out to all you 2019 bride & grooms for booking me for your weddings next year! Having weddings on the calendar for the upcoming year makes my heart SO FULL OF JOY because I have so much to look forward to already (as do you)!!!

MATERNITY LEAVE PLANS

Now to give you info on when I plan to get back to shooting…

My plans are to take time off from August-September, and then get back to work starting in October. I already have a wedding that month, an engagement session & MIGHT even be offering Fall Mini Sessions (stay tuned on that). Due to Thanksgiving holiday & travel plans in November, I don’t plan to take on much that month. December is still fairly open as of now.

If you are a 2019 bride or groom I would HIGHLY encourage you to contact me ASAP! Come January 2019 I’m usually already halfway (or more) booked. I take a limited amount of weddings each year to also make room for maternity, newborn, family portrait sessions + my own family life.

If you contact me while I’m on maternity leave I will still respond to new inquiries, so don’t let that hold you back from reaching out.

LOOKING BACK…

I thought it would be fun to post photos throughout the various stages of my pregnancy to show my baby (& belly’s) growth. While pregnant with Luke in 2015, I did self-portraits of myself in my studio & also had sweet fellow-photography-loving friends document that baby bump journey, so I knew I needed to do the same with my second! Plus, having the excuse to get dolled up & adventure around my beautiful state… who wouldn’t enjoy that?!

BABY #2 WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED IN FEBRUARY…

27 WEEKS PREGNANT

30 WEEKS PREGNANT

TO COMPARE, HERE’S HOW I LOOKED AT 37 WEEKS PREGNANT WITH LUKE IN 2015…

AND NOW, 37 WEEKS PREGNANT WITH *THIS* BABY BOY…

I think I was a little bigger with Luke than I am this baby. That gives me hope for a smaller baby, since Luke came out at a whopping 9.9 lbs, 21.5 in!!

Less than 3 weeks from baby’s due date now. We are all anxious to meet you, baby boy. :-)

Greenhouse + Studio Maternity Session in Rockford, MI

I loved the beauty and variety that encompassed Rachel’s 32 week maternity session. Rachel & Kevin are expecting their first baby girl who is due on September 20! Her stepmother from my hometown of Houston, Texas reached out to me several months ago to gift this session to Rachel so she would have tangible memories of this special time in her life. Isn’t that the sweetest?? I had such a great evening with Rachel and her family & documenting this incredible time in their lives.

We met at my studio where Lisamarie of Wonderfully Made Beauty did Rachel’s makeup, giving her a beauty treatment every pregnant momma should experience! Originally we had planned on doing photos in a park, but because it was such a rainy day out we decided to have the outdoor portion of the session inside a greenhouse. And I have to say that was one of the best changes in plan ever! I now have another favorite place to shoot. The pop of flower color surrounding Rachel and the perfect, heavenly light in the greenhouse made for an amazing choice for this maternity session!

After our time there we went back to my studio for some more photos using another one of the gowns she owned, along with some of my maternity wraps. She is seriously such a stunning mama-to-be!!! I’m so excited for them as they anticipate the arrival of their baby girl and soon get to experience the joys that parenthood has to offer. :-)
